2 year old immature Bald Eagle

We had heard that Eagles had a nest near Brydon Lagoon, and were lucky enough to find it - with two adults fussing around it. We weren't however, close enough to get good shots that day. It took us several weeks to get back there, but we made the trip with the thought in mind of finding eagles. We were extremely lucky seeing them soar over the lagoon, but by this time it seemed the nest was long forgotten.

Though I wasn't able to catch him plucking a fish from the lagoon, we saw him swoop in, then quickly drop his talons, snatch, and soar again. And two days in a row, we saw a juvenile perched in a tree spying out over the water. What was amazing about the eagle sitting there, was that the upper reaches of this tree were filled with chattering songbirds. If there were ten of them, there must have been thirty - and I'd even go so far as to say more than that didn't care that their downstairs neighbour was a predatory bird. (And though we didn't catch him swooping in that time, we did another .. click her to see a juvenile soaring over Brydon Lagoon.)

Juveniles don't gain their yellow beaks, or white head and tail feathers until they're about 5 years of age. This one is still showing the mottled chest and dark beak of a younger, or immature bird.
