GalleryNATUREBIRDSRAPTORS Snowy Owls
prev nextWe headed to Boundary Bay to see the Snowy Owls as many other people did, and we weren't disappointed. We saw Eagles, Hawks, Northern Harriers, songbirds, and a Great Blue Heron. People would point out where to look, and tell us as we were walking along the dike how much further till we'd get to a great area to see a few together. It was a wonderful day, and the Snowies were only part of it.
Though they're perfectly built to withstand the harsh extremes of winter on the open plains of snow covered tundra, younger snowies or juveniles have been wintering farther south recently. The result for those of us in the Greater Vancouver area is that we get to see birds that normally wouldn't call this area home at all.
