GalleryNATUREBIRDSSONGBIRDS Common Redpoll - left side
prev nextThough I only noticed male Common Redpolls when we were at the Great Blue Heron Reserve, there were probably females amongst the huge flock that filled the trees around us. Males wear red, or cherry like caps above their bushy eyebrows, and vests that lighten along the inner edges. And they look like vests because they split down the breast like upside down v's, with their light tummies exposed between the open bottoms of their vests.
Females also wear the red caps, but they don't have the same flair for fashion, and lack the red vests.
