dinner time

A select group of birds opt for a diet of little stingers (including Bees, Wasps and  Hornets) - and those that do, usually prefer them on the wing. Bees sitting next to them on a branch are of no interest. Clark's Nutcrackers however, aren't of that grouping. Their main diet is pine seeds - though they aso eat other seeds, berries, nuts, eggs, insects, lizards, small mammals and occasionally other birds' nestlings. When they do dine on bees, they're very often ones that are injured or already dead so the fight is already out of them (as was the case here) - though the stinger would possibly still be a tricky part of the meal to deal with.
