female Green-winged Teal on golden water

It was hazy, late in the day, and the sun certainly wasn't making a great showing - but the golden reflection on the water as the sun was lowering presented a wonderful contrast with the birds.

On first look, with the brown and white patterned feathers, and irridescent wing feather insert, this appeared to be a female Mallard, but it was much smaller than a Mallard. And unlike Mallards, had a completely dark beak. Female Mallards have dark saddles in the middle of orangey beaks.
