GalleryNATUREBIRDSWATER BIRDSDabblers Mallards mating 1
prev nextWe had walked by this area of the lake already, and hadn't seen anything outstanding on that pass. This time however, Paul pointed to the Mallards that were closest to us - still a good 50 feet away at least. He was bobbing his head up and down at her, in a fashion I'd never seen before. We both thought they might be getting ready to mate - though I didn't think it would be seconds away. I only had time to draw the camera up, and he said she had started bobbing as well, then they'd started. And as quick as it began, it was over just as fast. Here, her head has just started to break the surface. In the second shot, she's showing a little more.
