female Common Goldeneye

No matter how good at mothering female Common Goldeneyes are, their ducklings still have a hard time recognizing them after they leave the nests. Consequences are that other Common Goldeneye hens will raise young that aren't theirs. And apparently a lot of the confusion with family dynamics comes from territory disputes between adult females that result in the little guys scattering from the commotion.
