GalleryNATURECRITTERS female Rocky Mountain Elk (cow)
prev next
Though female (cow) Elk don't have horns, their Bighorn Sheep and Caribou counterparts do. In both cases, females (does) have smaller sets of horns - but with caribou, they also carry theirs more months of the year than the males. Male Caribou drop their antlers after mating, around November or December. Females, or does however keep theirs until after birthing - sometime around June.
