Yellow-bellied Marmot 1

I got quite close to this little guy as it was feeding, snapping shots while it contentedly ate grass. Then a little child came running at the critter - probably wanting to pick it up - and it raced for the rocks leading down to the lake. I was lucky to get a few pictures in.

Interestingly, the Vernon Morning Star said last year around this time that Yellow-bellied  Marmots were already starting hibernate, and that they typically hibernate "from early August through early March each year". I would have anticipated they start hibernating in the fall, but they get an early start on beauty rest.

A little sepia contrast on this one.
