Gaura - Passionate Rainbow - and Mason Bee

The hairs on the bees hind legs provide perfect purchase for the pollen they gather.

This little guy stumped me for quite awhile. I narrowed her down to either a Mason Bee, or a Miner Bee, but found more similarities with the dark Mason Bees than the Miners. Masons don't make honey, but they're not social bees so they don't have hives to protect, and they don't sting. They're also more industrious when it comes to pollinating, than honeybees.

Keeping Mason Bees is an excellent clip on how easy Masons are to start in your your yard.
