GalleryNATURETINY SURPRISESBUTTERFLIES ... Lourquin's Admiral butterfly - wings open
prev nextI understand that some butterflies including Lourquin's Admirals, "drink" from dung, droppings, and mud, but I was amazed that this one stayed so long in one area taking up as much as it could. Even with me several feet away taking shots, it wasn't fazed. It would occasionally fly a few feet away then start the ritual of feeding on the wet, sandy soil at the beach's edge again. In some shots you could see its proboscis unfurled and distended to the ground in order to absorb what it could.
