GalleryNATURETINY SURPRISESDRAGONFLIES ... female Common Whitetail dragonfly
prev nextI expected this to be a Four-spotted Dragonfly when this brown pilot banked wildly and landed nearby, but when I saw the large multiple dark spots on the wings, I knew it was something else. Closer inspection on the computer showed it to be a female Common Whitetail - nothing like its male counterpart. Male Common Whitetails have cool-white, chalky blue bodies and single dark spots on their wings - so you could be excused for thinking they weren't the same species.
