male Darner dragonfly - Paddle-tailed (Aeshna palmata)

This guy was making colourful darts around the reeds, occasionally hovering for a few seconds, then flitting off again. When he finally landed, the bold pattern just jumped against the reeds and grasses. One thing I can't get enough of are the lustrous eyes the Darners have - this one's having such a beautiful mix of tones.
