GalleryNATUREBIRDSSONGBIRDS male Spotted Towhee
prev nextThough we'd seen them before, we hadn't noticed the Spotted Towhees' songs because they were either chattering amongst other birds, or they weren't making a peep. This time, the area was quiet except for a new trill that was really close. Initially, it seemed the bird was hidden right above us in the leafy branches, but moving just a few feet revealed our little songmeister through the leaves. And though you may not normally think of this, with the bird's beak open in song, the translucenscy of the lower half shows how shear it it.
