News Little Sprites Of The North
prev nextIt's sure coming to the end for tiny little visitors flittering about and brightening corners here and there. Especially so when we were up north in the Peace Region a few weeks ago. Overnights put the bite in chilly, but the days still warmed up. And our tiny friends put on some dwindling shows for the area.
This little Satyr Comma butterfly darted around our heads on and off quite a bit like it was tempting us to reach out and catch it. It would float around look like it was going land, then rev up and head elsewhere, continuing to tease us with fake landings or ones just out of reach for shots. So when it came back and landed on the bench just behind us, I snapped furiously.
My Sony mirrorless died while we were hiking and I didn't have a backup battery with me, so I used my old Panasonic superzoom to get this shot of two Paddle-tailed Darner dragonflies. I'm just amazed everytime I see them up close and their beautiful eyes reflect back those rich colours. Almost a painters dream palette. Summer was quickly winding down in the area, and a lot of the dragonflies we saw were pairing off and taking care of that last bit of business for the year.
And finally, the Satyr blended nicely with the full colour background, so for a contrast I stripped the background to a soft sepia to give it an edge.
